Northwest Straits ChapterBased in Bellingham, WA. We are a 501 (c)(3) non-profit environmental organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the worlds oceans, waves, and beaches for all people, through conservation, activism, research and education. We have several projects, events and campaigns, so come get involved!
Join us between 6-8 PM on Monday the 17th for our February NWS Chapter meeting at Rudy’s Pizzeria. We’ll talk about what’s the latest and the greastest happenings our chapter’s got going on. We’ll sit down with some pizza and pints to write our legislature on passing the Oil Transportation Safety Act to keep our waterways safer in the event of an oil spill. Don’t know where to start with one of these letters? No worries, we’ll teach you and provide all the materials you’ll need!
Take Action on the Oil Transportation Safety Act (OSTA) now! In addition to coal export proposals, our state faces many more fossil fuel issues ahead as more crude oil exports are being proposed. The transportation of this crude oil threatens our waterways.
Thank you for visiting Northwest Straits Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation’s website! Below is the latest on our campaigns, events, and other activities. Thanks in advance for supporting our chapter’s efforts to ensure clean water and protection and enjoyment of all the places we love to play.
Join us for our monthly meetings the 4th Monday of every month at 7 PM at Woods Coffee at Boulevard Park. Next meeting is October 28th.
Take a stand against coal exports –
Currently, there are several proposed coal export terminals in the Pacific Northwest, all of which pose significant threats to the nearshore marine environment and the places we love to play. Locally in Bellingham, we are faced with SSA Marine’s proposal to build the Gateway Pacific Terminal (GPT) at Cherry Point.
